Yorkshire Dance invites you to be part of Bradford’s biggest ever outdoor dance...
Wanted: 2,012 people to dance in Bradford’s Centenary Square
Saturday 25 July, 11.00am – 12 noon Come with the whole family, all your friends, or your entire dance group. It’s going to be a brilliantly entertaining bit of Step Up Bradford. Celebrating Yorkshire’s Olympic hopes for 2012, internationally renowned choreographer Luca Silvestrini is creating a wonderfully simple dance with quirky, fun moves, each inspired by an Olympic sport.
Although it’s easy to learn, it’s going to look and feel amazing with 2012 people doing it at once. And you might just find yourself dancing alongside one of Yorkshire’s very own Olympic athletes! Whatever your age, ability, shape, size or background – whether you’ve danced before or not – you’re invited to be one of our two thousand and twelve dancers. There will be a safe area available in the heart of the square for wheelchair users to dance in.
2500 young people descended to Ampleforth College for the 10th Annual Leeds Trinity North Yorkshire Youth Games.
The event saw young people from all over North Yorkshire and York attending to have the honour of representing their district in their chosen sport. There were 17 different sports and 23 Trophies up for grabs, and the competition was intense but there was a sense of fun running through out the day and some great displays of sporting prowess by the participants involved.
Bethany started playing football at the age of 7. In 2009 she has scored 34 goals in 19 appearances for Middlesbrough Centre of Excellence. She was selected at the age of 12 to train with the England U15 squad and in June was selected to play for England U15s in a friendly against Germany in August.
The 30th Annual Swaledale Marathon, a fell run and challenge walk organised by the Swaledale Outdoor Club, took place on Saturday 13th June with 493 people starting the event in Fremington and 469 finishing in Reeth. The event coincided with a beautiful day in Swaledale but this meant conditions were tough with warm temperatures at the higher altitude stretches of the route. The clear skies provided magnificent views for those who had time to look around.
This year’s event was won by Lewis Banton representing Clowne Road Runners in an excellent time of three hours fifteen minutes. Fastest Male Veteran was Steve Brown of Swaledale Road Runners in three hours forty eight minutes. First Lady Veteran was Pippa Weir in a time of four hours exactly, fast enough to also win her the award for fastest lady overall. First Swaledale Outdoor Club members across the line were brothers Leigh and Blake Gravenor with Victoria Howard the first female member. The East Hull Harriers won the male team award with Swaledale Road Runners winning the female team award.
The event which is organised by a large team from the Swaledale Outdoor Club remains one of the most popular of its kind in Britain and is invariably full within ten days of entry forms becoming available on 1st January.
